Our Careers program

Simmons Johnson is a client focused and progressive Accountancy Firm located in the heart of Sydney City. We are commited to providing all of our clients results and assisting them to achieve their objectives and goals.

We believe that the service we offer to our clients is only as good as the people we have working with us. That is why Simmons Johnson place a great deal of emphasis in finding the right people to fit our client focused culture.

At Simmons Johnson we offer employment for people who are qualified accountants, and also people who want to be accountants or have years of experience. And due to the nature of the dynamic industry in which we operate, we also require people for roles other than that of an accountant.

Graduate Recruitment

Simmons Johnson actively recruits recent graduates. Providing accounting services to clients requires more than simply applying the knowledge and analytical skills learned at University. While we look for excellent academic results, a genuine interest in our areas of practice and the ability to think quickly and creatively is also important and we place great value on openness to new ideas, enthusiasm and friendliness.

Graduates at Simmons Johnson are provided with responsibility and contact with clients at an early stage. We expect all graduate accountants to work hard, be team players, be conscious of client needs, to show initiative and be prepared to take responsibility.

We provide ongoing support and training in a friendly, non-hierarchical environment. Graduates are encouraged to participate in both formal and informal training programs. Informal training generally includes face to face instruction from partners while working on projects.

If you would like to be considered during our university program intake, or would like further information on our graduate recruitment program please e-mail us at careers@simmons-johnson.com.

Experienced Accountants

Outstanding accountants are always needed to work on and develop major clients for the firm. If you feel that you have the experience and the drive to help us grow our business and our clients business', then we would like to hear from you. For further information about the opportunities that exist at Simmons Johnson, or if you would like to discuss with one of our Senior Partners what opportunities may exist for you, then please e-mail us at careers@simmons-johnson.com.

Accountancy Traineeships

At Simmons Johnson we have always sought to find people who have a genuine interest in accounting and providing outstanding levels of client service. We also recognise that some of the best accountants don't always come direct from completing their tertiary studies. As such, we have a Trainee-ship program for HSC graduates who are self motivated with a desire to succeed.

Applicants must have achieved a UAI to enable them to enrol in a part time Commerce or Business Degree at a Sydney metropolitan university.

You will gain experience in all phases of the profession to ensure your career development.

The firm understands it is a hard ask to work five days a week and attend lectures for 3-4 subjects per semester in the evenings - so we allow all part time students one half day (preferably afternoons) per week during the semester to attend lectures. If you would like to discuss with us the opportunities in our Trainee-ship scheme, please e-mail us at careers@simmons-johnson.com.

Professional & Personal Development

The Partners are keen for all staff members to be successful in their careers and we will assist people with their personal and professional development where possible. We offer support to anyone who wishes to engage in further studies while working at Simmons Johnson, and we encourage our staff to discuss their needs with one of the Senior Partners.

Study Leave

The firm offers staff members engaged in a recognised accounting degree course study leave. Study leave requirements will be treated on a case by case basis with a Senior partner.

Course Attendance and Exam Leave.

The firm also maintains a flexible policy and approach to leave for those attending courses and sitting exams. Again, leave is treated on a case by case basis with a senior partner.

C A Program Students.

Before each module, timetable requirements will be discussed with the partners. All C A program students should attend City workshops. Financial assistance will be discussed on a case by case basis.
